VEGE DCVJ Remanufactured Long Block – GM 4.2L Vortec 4200
America’s Answer to the Straight-Six, Rebuilt to Factory Specification
The Vortec 4200 — GM’s LL8 — is the engine that made the TrailBlazer worth buying: a 4.2-litre DOHC 24-valve inline-six with an aluminum block, variable valve timing and a torque curve that made it a repeated Ward’s 10 Best Engines winner. Enthusiasts still call it “almost America’s 2JZ.” The VEGE DCVJ is that engine, remanufactured in the Netherlands by Europe’s largest engine remanufacturer: thermal cleaned, crack-tested, machined to OEM tolerances, fitted with new pistons, rings, bearings and gaskets throughout, and run on a state-of-the-art test bench before dispatch.
What arrives: long block with the DOHC cylinder head and oil pump, gaskets included. What transfers from your old engine: intake manifold, exhaust manifold, valve cover, oil pan, front timing cover, water pump, harmonic balancer, sensors, wiring and PCM.
Which LL8 Code? The Year Split
GM revised the LL8 across its production run, and VEGE codes track the changes:
Table
| Code | Years | Key difference |
|---|---|---|
| DCTW | 2002–2004 | Early LL8, no VVT |
| DCVJ (this engine) | 2005 | VVT on intake |
| DCVC | 2006–2007 | VVT on exhaust |
| DCVK | 2008–2009 | Final revision |
Order by your vehicle’s model year — and send your VIN if you’re unsure. A 2005 TrailBlazer takes this engine; the VVT difference isn’t a detail, it’s the valvetrain. [VERIFY availability of sibling codes.]
