VEGE DCM2 Remanufactured Long Block Crate Engine — Chevy 305 V8 (5.0L)

The most common small-block Chevy of the ’80s — remanufactured to factory spec. The VEGE DCM2 is a fully remanufactured Chevy 305 engine — the 5.0L / 305 cubic inch small-block V8 that powered Monte Carlos, Caprices, Camaros, Malibus, El Caminos and C10 pickups through the heart of the 1980s. With cylinder heads and oil pump installed and torqued to specification, this long block is ready to receive your intake, carburetor or fuel injection and accessories — a true drop-in replacement. Crated and shipped fast across Europe from NH Race Engine.

Why Choose the VEGE DCM2?

The Chevy 305 was GM’s workhorse V8 for a decade — installed in everything from B-body Caprices to F-body Camaros and G-body Monte Carlos. Millions were built, but after 35+ years, surviving engines are tired: worn bores, leaking seals, tired valve guides. A junkyard pull means unknown history and a coin-toss on condition.

The DCM2 eliminates the gamble. VEGE completely disassembles every core to individual components, then cleans, crack-tests, measures and machines the block and cylinder heads back to OE tolerances. Each engine is reverse-engineered — known original design defects are identified and eliminated before reassembly, not copied. Wear components are replaced new, and every long block is tested and calibrated before being vacuum-sealed, corrosion-treated and crated for dispatch.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Chevy 5.0 / 305 Platform: The small block that defined ’80s GM — from 5.0 badges on Monte Carlo SS grilles to Camaro TPI engines. Factory-replacement displacement, no compromises.
  • True Remanufacture to Factory Spec: Complete teardown, crack testing, machining to OE tolerances and reassembly by certified technicians — a documented process, not a salvage refresh.
  • Reverse-Engineered Reliability: Original design defects are eliminated during remanufacturing, so your replacement engine is built better than the one that failed.
  • Long Block Ready: Cylinder heads, valvetrain and oil pump with gasket installed and torqued to specification. Transfer your intake, carburetor or TBI/TPI unit, ignition and accessories.
  • Restoration & Hot Rod Favorite: The correct engine for period-correct ’80s GM restorations — and a budget-friendly small-block foundation for street rods and truck builds.
  • Strong Aftermarket Support: The SBC platform enjoys the deepest aftermarket of any American V8 — parts, knowledge and speed shops across Europe.
  • Crated for Safe EU Transport: Vacuum-sealed, corrosion-treated, steel-crate packed and dispatched with full tracking and insurance.

Vehicle Fitment — DCM2 Applications

The VEGE DCM2 Chevy 305 engine long block suits Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Buick applications running the 5.0L / 305 small-block V8:

  • Chevrolet Monte Carlo (1980–1988): Including the iconic 305-powered SS
  • Chevrolet Caprice & Impala (1977–1990): 5.0L V8 sedans, wagons and 9C1 police cars
  • Chevrolet Camaro & Pontiac Firebird (1982–1992): 5.0L carbureted, TBI and TPI F-bodies
  • Chevrolet Malibu & El Camino (1978–1987): G-body 5.0 applications
  • Chevrolet & GMC C/K Trucks, G-Vans: 305-powered light trucks and vans
  • Other GM 305 Applications: Oldsmobile Cutlass, Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix 5.0 variants
  • Hot Rod & Custom Builds: A budget-friendly small-block foundation for street rods, square-body trucks and customs

Verify before ordering: The 305 spans carbureted, TBI and TPI eras with running changes across years. The DCM2 covers the 5.0L / 305 configuration — send us your VIN or casting numbers and our technical team will confirm the exact match for your application, or identify the correct VEGE code if the DCM2 isn’t it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the VEGE DCM2 a drop-in replacement for my Monte Carlo, Caprice or Camaro?

Yes — as a long block, the DCM2 installs using your original intake manifold, carburetor or injection unit, ignition, exhaust manifolds, water pump, balancer and flexplate from the original 305. Confirm your exact variant (carb / TBI / TPI) with our team before ordering — VIN or casting numbers settle it instantly.

What’s the difference between the Chevy 305 and the 350?

Both are small-block Chevys — the 305 uses a smaller bore (3.736″) with the same basic architecture. The 305 was GM’s economy/emissions V8 through the ’80s; the 350 was the performance option. They’re externally similar but internally different — the DCM2 is built specifically to 305 specification. If your car left the factory with a 5.0, this is the correct engine.

Does the DCM2 include the carburetor, intake and distributor?

No — this is a long block. It includes the assembled block, cylinder heads, valvetrain, oil pump and gasket. Intake, carburetor or injection, ignition, exhaust manifolds, oil pan, valve covers, timing cover, water pump, balancer and flexplate transfer from your original engine.

Is the Chevy 305 worth restoring, or should I swap in a 350?

For a period-correct restoration or a numbers-matching car, the 305 is the right engine — and the DCM2 is the smart way to get a zero-hour one. For a hot rod or non-original build where originality doesn’t matter, a 350 offers more displacement; see our 350 V8 and Vortec 350 pages. Our team can advise on either path.

Do I need to return my old engine core?

Core policy varies by order type — many VEGE engines are available with no core required. Contact NH Race Engine for current terms.
